John Zahry has professional experience in both the criminal justice system and the insurance industry. He has also worked in supervision, program implementation, and client services. John Zahry prepared for his career by earning a bachelor of arts in sociology from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California.
Mr. Zahry spent over 20 years with the Kern County Probation Department, where he held various roles before becoming a division director. In that position, he oversaw staffing, policy development, and training, while also managing units handling high-risk offenders. He was involved in establishing the department’s first apprehension team and participated in strategic planning related to California’s AB 109 realignment initiative.
Following his government service, Mr. Zahry moved into the insurance field. He has worked with Aflac and the National Life Group, where he has assisted clients with life, accident, and disability insurance. In 2023, he received the Founders Award.
Outside of work, Mr. Zahry volunteers with Meals on Wheels and is active with the Knights of Columbus. He enjoys tennis, golf, and mountain biking, and follows both the Miami Dolphins and the Los Angeles Lakers.
